The wind cave trail takes you to a group of natural, limestone arches and hollows nestled high up in Logan Canyon. The caves are large rooms that were formed underground as water slowly dissolved the limestone. This created large, below ground caverns. As the Logan river cut the canyon this exposed the caves we see today.
The educational and unique caves combined with beautiful views make this trail a must-do.
What to expect at the trailhead
You can expect a small pullout parking lot at the trailhead. The trailhead is often busy and cars park down along the street. There are no restrooms at the trailhead.
What to expect along the trail
The wind cave trail is a very popular trail. You can expect to see many other hikers along the way. This 3.6 mile out and back hike gains 1100 feet in elevation. It is a steady incline the entire way there. Making it a moderate- strenuous hike.
What to do
The Wind Cave is great for enjoying the views. Our personal favorite time to go is in the fall. You will see the beautiful fall colors down Logan canyon at this time of the year. The time of the year pictured below is late fall- early winter. A beautiful time as well with the light dusting of snow on the mountain tops.
This is also a wonderful spot for exploring the caves and climbing around. If you have small children you will want to hold their hand and keep them close.
How to get here
The Wind Cave trail is located in Logan Canyon. To get to the trailhead, from Logan main street turn east onto Hwy 89 for 7.5 miles. The trailhead will be on your left.
Note: in Google Maps this is known as Wind Caves (with an s). You will often see Wind Cave and Wind Caves both used when describing this trail.
Happy Trails
The Wind Cave is a beautiful hike with sweeping views of Logan Canyon. Exploring the caves at the end with your children makes this moderate-strenuous hike worth it. Happy trails to the Wind Caves until we meet again!
