Quail Trail Loop is the perfect nature trail for young children. The short and relatively flat .8 miles loop allows younger children to explore without being in a child carrier. Perhaps the greatest part of this trail are the countless rocks along the trail that are perfect for young explorers to climb!
What to expect along the trail
Quail Trail Loop is a lightly trafficked trail. You can expect a small parking lot, but it will still have plenty of spaces available to park. There are no restrooms at the trailhead. Upon entering the trail you will see an information board. The trail is to the left (north) of the information board. The trail to the right connects up to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
Not long into the trail you will come across a large, relatively flat rock. Bring a lunch and plan to have a picnic on the rock!
Take one of the many little trails that goes off the main trail. There are some great rocks and places for the kids to explore. The trail goes for .25 miles before you come to Blackbird pond and make the loop.
Once you reach Blackbird pond (better described as a grassy wetland) you can go either way since this is where the loop starts. We suggest going to the right (east) to be sure and hit up a fantastic area for the kids to explore. We will be talking about this area in our “Check It Out” section below. Make the loop around and head back the way you came.
Check It Out
Check out the perfect "rock climbing wall" for children! Heading right (east) on the loop there is a small trail off of the main trail. You will see it after you cross the 2nd bridge. Kids LOVE trying their hand at rock climbing and you will love that it is small and safe. You can stand behind them to spot them. You should be able to reach most of the way to the top as you spot them.
- Unfortunately there is graffiti on the rocks
How to get to Quail Trail Loop
The trail is located at the Ogden Nature Center North Trailhead. The trailhead parking lot is located just off of Mountain road in northern Ogden. Something to note about its location. This trail is very close to the road and a residential area.
