Zedds Meadow -

Zedds Meadow

Near Fish Lake is a lesser known trail where you will see evidence of wildlife and walk through Bob Ross inspired meadows along the Fremont river.

River meanders through a green meadow with mountains surrounding

We honestly don’t really know the name of this trail. We just happened upon it on a scenic drive. There is no information about this trail anywhere else other than it is a place for dispersed camping.

We are calling it Zedds Meadow trail since it begins at Zedds Meadow. However; our 6 year old likes to call it Beaver Trail because of the abundant signs of beavers in the area.

My husband and I like to call it, Bob Ross Painting Trail because you feel like you have stepped in to a Bob Ross painting here.

What to expect at the trailhead

The trailhead is located at a large parking lot off Zedds Meadow. You can expect it to be empty or nearly empty. There is 1 vault toilet at the trailhead.

As shown in the photo above, the trail begins to the west of the parking lot or just north of the restrooms.

You can also start this trail at Johnson Reservoir and hike it there starting at the dam.

What to expect along the trail

You can expect a very lightly trafficked trail. Since there is no other information online about this trail other than this is a spot for dispersed camping. You may be the only people on the trail.

You can expect a easy, flat trail. The trail follows the Fremont river to Johnson reservoir.

You will need to climb over and around some downed trees that are blocking the trail. There is tons of evidence of beavers. One being you can see multiple trees that the beavers have cut down.

Young boy climbing over trees that are laying across the trail. There is a spot where you can see a beaver chewed the tree and knocked it down.

Why is Zedds Meadow so great?

Wildlife Learning at Zedds Meadow

This trail is perfect to enjoy nature and wildlife. This is the perfect trail to teach your children about wildlife such as beavers, elk, butterflies, etc as you will encounter evidence that they all live here.

Beautiful nature at Zedds Meadow

When we first took this trail and came to a meadow by the river we gasped and decided to call this the, “Bob Ross Painting Trail” since we felt like we had literally walked into a Bob Ross painting.

The river as it meanders through the trees along dandelion meadows makes this a beautiful and peaceful trail.

Dispersed Camping at Zedds Meadow

This is a fantastic spot for dispersed camping! There are many spots with fire rings along the river. You can go up the trail as far as you want to get seclusion, but also be close to the restrooms at the parking lot & trailhead.

We just happened upon this trail while taking a scenic drive. It proved to be one of the best surprises. Our 6 year old said, “this is the best hike I have ever done in my life!” This will forever be our Bob Ross Painting, our Beaver trail.

Be sure and check out this trail on your next trip to Fish Lake

Happy trails to Zedds Meadow until we meet again!
