- Kanab
- Beautiful caverns
- Involves some scrambling
Moqui Caverns is a magical set of man-made caves that you can see from the highway just north of Kanab. Don’t get them confused with Moqui Cave, an expensive museum and gift shop. These caverns are free and a beautiful addition to your trip to Kanab.Â
What to expect at the trailhead
Parking is in a small dirt pull off on the west side of the road. The caverns are on the east side of the road. There are no restrooms and no amenities.Â
What to expect along the trail
You can expect a moderately trafficked trail as this is increasing in popularity.Â
There really is no trail. You will make your way towards the mountain to the left of the caverns. This does require some scrambling up the rocks. Shoes with good traction is a must as the sandstone is slippery. Simply, zig zag up then over to the caverns.Â
Warning
The caves have drop offs so please watch your children closely.
What to do
This is a fun place to explore. Bring some sand toys for the kiddos and let them explore through small arches and find their way to the deepest darkest part of the caverns.
This is a fantastic place for photos! It does get busy so you may need to be patient as others are trying to get that perfect shot.Â
Bonus!
Be sure and check out the small waterfall that is right there at the parking lot. It is just a small trickle of water, but a neat spot to explore for a minute.
How to get here
Moqui Caverns is located 6 miles north of Kanab on hwy 89. You can spot the caverns up on the east side of the road on the mountain between Moqui Cave (the museum) and the animal sanctuary.
Happy Trails
Moqui Caverns is a set of man made beautiful caves for you and your children to explore! Increasing in popularity (for good reason) so be patient as you are climbing the slippery sandstone to get there.
