Red Hollow Canyon is a hidden local gem! This lightly trafficked trail is the perfect introductory slot canyon for children.

What to expect at the trailhead

There is a small parking lot next to the fenced in city water facilities at the start of the trail. The 1/4 mile dirt road to the parking lot has 1 spot with deeper sand (pictured above). If you do not feel comfortable driving this part in your sedan then you can park on the main road and walk. There are no amenities at the trailhead.

What to expect along the trail

There will be several trails that go from the parking lot. It doesn’t matter which trail you take because they all converge into the main wash. Once at the main wash head left (east) up the wash and towards the canyon. Stay on the main wash for about .5 mile and it will lead you directly into the slot canyon.

The slot canyon is only about 100 yards long. It goes further but it requires using a rope that is there to scale a 10 foot rock. Many just go to this point and turn around.

What to do

This is the perfect trail for kids to experience a slot canyon for the first time. It is a picturesque slot canyon as well! Take your time. Let your children climb around and grab some photos. 

How to get here

Red Hollow Canyon is in the heart of the small town of Orderville. Orderville is 22 miles north of Kanab. From hwy 89 turn east at the elementary school onto 100 east. Next, take a sharp left onto Red Shadow drive. The road will turn to the right and there will be a dirt road that goes straight.

You can either park on the street and walk up this dirt road or drive the .25 mile to the parking lot. If you are driving a sedan you may want to consider parking on the road and walking. If driving remember to not slow down in the part with deeper sand.
